Huehuetenango is one of the great remote coffee growing regions of the world with towering mountains and steep expansive green valleys.  Three families and nine producers around Las Palomas, one of the many peaks in San Pedro Necta, group together to form a unique coffee as a community. Led by Marcos Domingo, small producers in this area are improving the quality of their coffees which are making their way to our partners in Antigua.  We are thrilled for the chance to work with these small producers alongside Luis Pedro Zelaya and Melanie Herrera of Zelcafe at Beneficio Bella Vista after tasting their samples.  We see tremendous potential here and are extremely hopeful toward our future relationships with these producers. 

The farms of Las Palomas grow Bourbon, Catuaí and Caturra from 1800 meters to as high as 1950 meters for a late but short harvest period from early March through April in two main rounds of picking.  These producers handle all of their own picking and traditional washing with fermentation in wooden as well as concrete tanks and the clean parchment is dried on their own small concrete patios.  These are quite different from Antigua coffees displaying round fruit-forward flavors and complexity.
