Dark Stone Fruits with Baking Spices and a Long Finish

Ubaldo Moreno
El Cedral, Santa Barbara (1640m)
Pacas, Catimor, Bourbon, Cataui, Parainema

The aromatic range and depth of Las Nieblas translates directly from its field blend of varieties on steep slopes. It favors a structured cup in a powerful expression of terroir against the more lush fruited profiles of the plots directly above it. Ubaldo Moreno’s Las Nieblas skirts below the farms of sons Milton and Alexi. They all share a commonality but each are unique and different, none more so than the diversity and steep terrain of Las Nieblas.

Ubaldo Moreno is the son of the famous Don Pedro Moreno who first settled the village of El Cedral planting coffee high on Santa Barbra Mountain in the 1970’s. Ubaldo planted his own trees in the 1980’s adding multiple varieties, farming a diverse field blend in the conven- tional method for decades. When his sons developed a relationship with Saint Frank in 2012, Ubaldo would join each of our visits quietly observing their growth and our connection. In 2015 he joined in the relationship himself preparing his coffee for Saint Frank with the help and encouragement from his sons. Las Nieblas is an unexpected story of transformation and progress through inclusion and relationship.
