Kiringa represents the promising flavors of a place and terroir beginning anew as the first terroir zone identified and separated for the renewed Thunguri Factory in Kirinyaga County. Kiringa is a perfect introduction to classic Kenyan flavors emerging from red volcanic soil at high altitudes through the traditional vessels of the SL and Ruiru varieties. Citrus acidity and stone fruit sweetness are set in a structured frame hinting at classic Kenyan blackcurrant flavors.
This coffee marks the entry into Kenya for our longtime partners at the Long Miles Coffee Project of Burundi. After Long Miles founder Ben Carlson and Saint Frank founder Kevin Bohlin met producer Haron Wachira, the plans for Long Miles Kenya were born producing an inaugural harvest in 2021. Haron and his local community worked to revive their local Thunguri washing station in partnership with Long Miles connecting producers to a more consistent, equitable and relational specialty market. Saint Frank committed to the entire production of the renewed washing station and its first twenty producers looking forward to increased quality and connections as the Thunguri Factory continues to grow as a beacon for what relational specialty coffee can be in Kirinyaga and the great origin of Kenya.
