A Complex mix of Dried Flower Aromas lead unique flavors of Goji Berries and Cacao Nibs

Producers: Chesiro Farmers Cooperative Society
Place: Cheptais, Bungoma County, Kenya
Process & Varieties: K7, Batian, Ruiru 11

Kenya's familiar flavors shine in this coffee, but it's also entirely new.  Different varieties replace the usual bourbon ones. The high altitude makes the coffee acidic and structured, while Lake Victoria's breezes ripen the fruit evenly. K7 and Batian varieties offer dark floral notes of violet, lavender, and angostura bitters, making this Kenyan coffee unique. It has a soft, full texture, both intriguing and inviting.

We explored far west, past Nyeri, to the foot of Mount Elgon near Uganda. This area lacks auctions and coffee buyers. The villages are poor, unlike the developed areas of central Kenya. Unrest between tribes has kept specialty coffee pioneers away; they prefer the convenience of Mount Kenya near Nairobi. With Long Miles Coffee of Burundi, we found a determined community in Cheptais eager for the opportunity specialty coffee offers. This coffee is our next step in exploring Kenya's future. Go west.

We recommend 1 part ground coffee to 16 parts filtered water (1:16) Pour Over: 20g coffee med-fine | 320g water off boil | 3:00 min duration
