Muranga County, Kenya (1600 to 1800 m)
Fully washed SL28, SL34 Ruiru, Batian
The Nguku Factory draws its coffee from farmers in the Aberdare mountain ranges of the Central Kenya slopes that gently lead up to Mount Kenya. Higher proportionate plantings of the Batian variety and moderate altitudes produce a unique cup bursting with dark berry flavors in a sweet but not overly acidic profile that finishes smooth and balanced compared to the often powerful currant notes one gets further north in Nyeri County.
Muranga County is a region on the rise in Central Kenya with a resurgence of quality and opportunity for growers that populate its gently sloping villages like Nguku that rest between the southern Abedare mountain range and that of majestic Mount Kenya. The producers of the Nguku Factory most recently left their most recent cooperative with brighter hopes in the newly restructured Kenya Planters Cooperative Union now run by the state. We are hopeful as well for the future of this powerful and unique coffee and its growers. We hope you enjoy the flavors and representation of Muranga County in this delicious coffee from the Nguku village and Factory.
